Dearest Friends,
On Friday, December 21, 2012, YogaChai will close it doors. Writing this message to you, the YogaChai community, certainly comes with tears, but also with a deep sense of gratitude for all that each of you has contributed to the amazing experience we have had the past four years. We are both so grateful for each individual who has blessed the space with his/her energy and practice. YogaChai is an incredible community of dedicated, driven, disciplined, and dear yogis. It has been a treat to see each of you grow and to grow with you.
The decision to close YogaChai is definitely not an easy one, but it is a necessary one. Life is full of changes and we have done our best to breathe and adjust to those shifts. Although there is great sadness in what feels like a deep loss right now, we both also feel joy in moving forward and peace in letting go.
We will dearly miss teaching classes with a child (or benevolent assistant, as Alex calls them) in tow and could not be more grateful for the opportunity we have had to raise our children at YogaChai and with the YogaChai community. And the fact that so many of you have been able to do the same, bringing your little ones to childcare and all of the children’s classes, is such a beautiful blessing for us all. May we all continue to learn from the light of yoga within children and help them to continue its shining!
We will also miss the many laughs we have shared in the wonderful space you all have created. The two of us have said to each other nearly every day since YogaChai’s birth that the best perk of opening a studio is the amazing people we have met. That goes for the students at YogaChai, as well as for the teachers. We truly believe that we have had the honor of working with some of the finest, most down-to-earth, real yoga teachers in DC, and for that we are extremely grateful.
We also want to take this opportunity to acknowledge publicly, if anonymously, the handful of dear friends and family whose contributions allowed us to open YogaChai in the first place. Their financial support and donation of services in everything from web design to business planning to graphic design to painting and construction made the incredible yoga experience we all had possible. Thank you to each of those special people from the bottom of our hearts.
As YogaChai winds down over the next few weeks, we know there will be much to say to one another… questions to ask, memories to share, feelings to express. But know that at the heart of it all, the two words that we want to share with you as this journey draws to a close are “Thank you.”
With deepest gratitude,
Alex and Autumn
